I Want To Move Forward But I Feel Stuck
When you lose someone special to you, it can feel like a bond that was tied between you two was permanently cut, never to grow or rebuild itself again. That thought alone can be suffocating for some, especially if this is their first time truly experiencing a loss of importance. When you find that you are feeling stuck in a constant cycle of missing a lost loved one and not wanting to move past your loss, then it may be time to reach out to a trained professional to guide you through the healing process of accepting loss and grief.
What Is Grief?
Grief can include many complex emotions such as sadness, guilt, shame, anger, or hopelessness. When someone experiences grief, they may not recognize the signs until they feel overloaded with emotions that they have no healthy outlet for. In moments like this, having a strong support system can make a huge difference in how someone overcomes their grief. This support system can include family members, friends, partners, and trained professionals such as therapists. Some ways in which you can spot someone struggling with grief are:
- Enormous feelings of guilt or pain over the loss
- Feeling detached from your reality
- Lack of trust in yourself and others
- Difficulty accepting the instance that caused grief (ex: death of a loved one)
- Isolation from friends, family, and interests such as hobbies or occupation
- Pining over lost loved on and struggling with survivors guilt
How Can Therapy Help?
Therapy for grief includes different levels of getting to know yourself, your reactions to traumatic experiences, and how to overcome yourself in times of stress and separation. It may feel like therapy sessions are the last thing on your mind when you are suffering through tremendous grief, but there are great benefits from working with a trained professional who understands your symptoms and gives you the space to process everything in your mind and heart. When you enter a therapy session with Introspection Counseling, you are entering a realm in which you finally have control over how you feel and think about your grief. You are given the room to speak on your feelings, however, they come up in your life, and be honest with yourself about your suffering. For some, having an outlet to finally speak their mind is their way of healing. For others, feeling their emotions is the least of their worries; what they need is someone to help guide them through their emotions, give them the tools to move forward, and provide insight into why their grief has taken over so abruptly.
